Windows Update Not Working after Internet Explorer 5 Upgrade
By: Arie SlobIf you upgrade to Internet Explorer 5, and try to access the Windows Update Web site, you might receive the following error message:
You have an older version of Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools. If you would like to download additional components from the Windows Update catalog, you must first upgrade to the latest version.
There is a registry key, which doesn't seem to get updated with the correct information. To rectify this:
- Start the Registry Editor
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
- The string value Version should be 5,00,2014,0216
- Close the registry editor, and restart Windows
