Remove the Recycle Bin from the Desktop
By: Arie SlobTo remove the Recycle Bin from your Desktop:
- Start the Registry Editor
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \ Explorer \ Desktop \ Namespace
- Expand the Namespace by double-clicking on it
- Delete the Key {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} (the one with the value Recycle Bin)
- Close the registry editor and press F5 to update the Desktop
To restore the Recycle Bin, you have to add the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} key, so the best thing to do (before you remove the key) is to backup the Key, this can be done by selecting the key {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}, and from the menu choosing Registry > Export Registry file, give it a name, choose a location where to save it, and check to make sure that in the Export range box Selected branch is selected.
Note: The Recycle Bin will only be removed from your Desktop. You can still access the Recycle Bin from Explorer.
Note: The Recycle Bin can also be removed from the Desktop with TweakUI (you can find it on your CD-ROM in the \tools\reskit\powertoy folder).
You can also use my Tweaking Toolbox for Windows, one of it's functions is to let you remove the recycle bin from the Desktop.
