Getting rid of those annoying Tool Tips
By: Arie SlobIn Windows 98 there are now even Tool Tips showing you the meaning of things like the Close, Maximize and Minimize buttons (among others).

That's nice if you are new to Windows, but it gets annoying after a while. Here is how to turn them off:
- Start the Registry Editor
- Go to HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Control Panel \ Desktop
-
Double-click UserPreferencemask, and change the Value data:
If the original starts with change it to e 6 a 2 c 4 b 3 8 0 (zero) So, if the original Value is be 00 00 00, change it to 3e 00 00 00
- Close the registry editor and restart Windows
Note: If Profiles are enabled, the UserPreferencemask value for the .Default user may also need to changed. The key containing this is HKEY_USERS \ .Default \ Control Panel \ desktop
This setting can also be changed with TweakUI (you can find it on your CD-ROM in the \tools\reskit\powertoy folder).
You can also use my Tweaking Toolbox for Windows, one of it's functions is to disable tooltips.
