Starting in "DOS" mode
By: Arie SlobTo bypass starting Windows 95 at start up without pressing F8, modify the line in the hidden file C:\Msdos.sys. (see How do I show hidden files (such as Msdos.sys) to see how to show hidden files in explorer).
- Use Explorer and find Msdos.sys in the root directory
- Make a copy of the Msdos.sys file in your Temp directory, or any other directory. (just in case...)
- Right-click Msdos.sys and select Properties
- Uncheck the Read-only attribute
-
Under the [Options] section, change:
BootGUI=1 to BootGUI=0
- Save the file
- In Explorer right-click on Msdos.sys, select Properties and check the Read-only attribute
